Places in Blanes that you can’t miss…

Blanes has four kilometres of coastline where you can find a wide variety of beaches. Every year, its beaches are recognised with quality certificates such as the blue flag. We agree when we are told that the coves of this beautiful town are true jewels of nature.

If you love the sea, spending time on the beach and enjoying the sea breeze, this will interest you:

SANT FRANCESC COVE
Cala San Francesc is a beautiful cove located on the outskirts of Blanes. It is also known as “Cala Bona”, due to its spectacular surroundings full of pine trees and rocks. Due to its marvellous crystalline waters, it is an ideal place for snorkelling.

TREUMAL COVE
Treumal cove, which is no more than 100 metres long, is one of the smallest beaches in Blanes. It is located to the north of the municipality and is ideal for bathing. The sea is usually calm and there is usually not much wind thanks to its privileged location.

PUNTA DE SANTA ANNA COVE
Santa Anna cove, also known as “Capellans beach”, is located at the end of the port of Blanes, just below El Convent. If you like pebble beaches, this is the perfect one for you. A different kind of beach, ideal for snorkelling.

BLANES BEACH
Blanes beach is located right in the centre of the town, next to the port. If you look at it from the sea, on the right-hand side you will find the large rock Sa Palomera. Thanks to its size, you are sure to find enough space to feel at ease.

S’ABANELL
S’Abanell beach is the largest and busiest beach in Blanes. It is located on the left side of the rock of Sa Palomera. It has all kinds of services and is surrounded by bars and restaurants. An ideal place for the whole family.

From 23 June to 8 July the 10 roll ups that make up the exhibition were located in different shops of the ABBC (Associació de Botiguers de Blanes Centre). These included the Dakota shop, the Giotto ice cream parlour, La Casa Groga, the Daina Dance School, Euronics, the Perinyà Sports shops, Foot On Mars and San Juan Òptics.

The exhibition, called “Història de l’esport local” is about the history of sport in Blanes and includes information about different sports disciplines such as basketball, boxing, judo, football, handball, hockey, cycling, sea sports, among others.

You will currently find these ten panels in the foyer of the Blanes Regional Library. They will be there until 31 August and then they will be moved to the hall of the Blanes Sports City. Delta de la Tordera, a privileged place for bird watching

18Mar

During your stay in Blanes we recommend you to visit the protected natural area of the Delta del Riu Tordera. It is a strategic place for the migration of many species of birds, which makes this natural space a privileged place for bird watching. Depending on the time of year, species such as the grey heron, the little bittern, the common kingfisher and the common sandpiper can be observed. The delta is also the natural habitat of the tree frog, the Magdalena river turtle and the Natrix maura. In terms of vegetation, you will find elm trees, aspeen trees, ash trees and reed fields.

The hotel is located approximately 4 kilometres from this natural space, we recommend a visit on foot in order to enjoy an excursion with unique and unrepeatable views. The estimated time for this excursion is 1 hour 40 minutes round trip from the hotel.

Joaquim Ruyra Itinerary in Blanes

19Jan

Blanes and its landscape have inspired artists, poets and writers. Joaquim Ruyra was a writer with a short literary production, but of very high quality who described many landscapes and corners of Blanes in his stories. We propose a route through the eyes of Joaquim Ruyra that will take you to the places in Blanes that inspired the artist to write some of his best known stories. Among these places you will find landscapes such as those of Punta Santa Anna, the seafaring district of s’Auguer, the cliffs of El Convent and Cala Sa Forcanera. The visit of these points is accompanied by an explanation and the reading of a fragment of his stories where he talks about this place.

Senyera en Blanes

National Day of Catalonia

09Sep

The National Day of Catalonia is celebrated on 11 September and commemorates the date of a defeat, the capitulation of Barcelona to the Bourbon troops in 1714. The commemoration has become a day for defending the country’s rights and freedoms, and an act of reaffirming Catalonia’s own character and its identity as a nation.

Blanes Town Council has designed a programme of commemorative events to celebrate the National Day of Catalonia, respecting all the health measures recommended by the Catalan government in relation to the COVID-19.

11:00 a.m. – Lifting of the senyera from the balcony of the town hall, accompanied by the hymn of Catalonia, els Segadors.

11:30 a.m. – Institutional flower offering in front of the monument to Lluís Companys on Sant Andreu de Sa Palomera street.

08:00 p.m. – Sardanas concert at the Banc dels Músics del Passeig de Mar by the Cobla La Flama de Farners.

Ermita de Sant Joan de Blanes

Visits to the Ermita de Sant Joan de Blanes

11Mar

Every Sunday of this month of March from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the “Associació estimem les ermites de Blanes” organizes visits to the Ermita de Sant Joan de Blanes.

The hermitage is located on top of the Sant Joan hill, next to the castle with the same name. It is documented in the 13th century, and in 1377 there is evidence that there was a priest in the castle that took care of it. During the 17th century, it was a centre of pilgrimage during the day of Sant Joan Baptista. In 1959, a restoration was carried out in which the roof was redone and the Blanenca artist Maria Teresa Bedós painted the interior frescoes. In 1991, it was restored again with the rehabilitation of the castle. It is a work included in the Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia.

Today it is preserved in good condition thanks to the entity “Associació estimem les ermites de Blanes” that fights to restore, preserve and make known the valuable cultural and religious heritage represented by the seven hermitages of Blanes, along with other buildings of public interest Blanenc.
